New Plymouth Open Spearfishing Competition (pairs event)

Venue: New Plymouth Sportfishing and Underwater Club

Date: Postponed until further notice

Entry Fee: $80 per team. Forms at the bar and available here 

Briefing: Friday evening 7.30pm and Saturday morning 7.30am.  Meals are available to be purchased at the clubrooms both evenings.

Fishing Time: 8.00am through to 3.00pm- Weigh station open from 3.00pm. All competitors to be at weigh station no later than 4.00pm.

Fishing area:  Herekawe Stream (Tapuae Marine Reserve Boundary)  North to the Waiwhakaiho River mouth and out to sea 10NM. There will be a safety boat patrolling the area. All boats to leave and return from Port Taranaki. Competitors may also dive from the shore.  There may be more than one pair in any boat.

Species:  Eligible species and numbers that can be weighed in are detailed below.  All fish to be over 450gms gilled and gutted.  Fish must be presented in good condition, ideally iced. Scoring will be 100points per fish and 10 points per kilogram (or part thereof).  Prize structure will be 1st to 4th team on points, most meritorious fish for the day and the ‘The heaviest John Dory’.  There will also be a number of spot prizes.
